New IQGeo Platform 6.0 is released

14 May 2020

Cambridge, 14 May 2020 - IQGeo (AIM: IQG), a developer of geospatial productivity and collaboration software for the telecoms and utility industries, today announced the release of the 6.0 version of the IQGeo Platform. This new release is focused on architectural enhancements and includes the rebranding of myWorld to the IQGeo Platform.

In January 2019 the new IQGeo corporate brand was launched following the sale of the Ubisense brand and RTLS software. Since then the company has been refocusing product names around the IQGeo corporate brand. The 6.0 release sees the final step in this rebranding process as the popular and field proven myWorld software is now renamed to the IQGeo Platform. The name change also comes with a refreshed user interface that adopts the green IQGeo corporate colors.

The most significant architectural enhancement in the 6.0 release of the IQGeo Platform is a change in the underlying JavaScript mapping library used by the product. The release changes the mapping library from Leaflet to OpenLayers which provides additional capabilities that will be leveraged in 6.0 and subsequent releases. This includes advanced features for vector rendering, which is strategic as the IQGeo Platform expands to include more specialized editing capabilities that work alongside existing GIS products or act as the system of record for network assets. OpenLayers also supports map rotation, which is an important feature for certain categories of mobile application, including walking or driving surveys.

Peter Batty, CTO at IQGeo, said: “The use of open source components as a base for our platform has played a significant role in our success. Leaflet was a good choice for us when we started using it in 2012 and it has served us well, but now is the right time to make the architectural change to OpenLayers. The scope of the IQGeo Platform has significantly expanded and OpenLayers is the best technology to support our vision of replacing legacy desktop GIS products with a modern web and mobile based platform. This change is non-disruptive for existing deployments and provides an excellent foundation for the growth of the IQGeo Platform and the ambitions of our customers.”
